Subject: TCRI AGM Affiliation Reform update - Bruce McDowell
Date: 26 September 2017
To: Whom It Should Concern

Hi everyone,

Excellent News! The good folks at Ellesmere have put the interests of the Canterbury tennis region ahead of their own self interests and have advised the TCRI Board that they will vote against the TCRI Board’s proposed 6 Band model.

As extracted from ETSA’s email to me (and others) and shared with their permission;

Ellesmere Tennis Sub Association advised the Board on 25/09/2017 of their intention to vote against the 6 Band model.

“Although Ellesmere are by far the biggest winner under the TCRI 6 banded model we do not believe it is a fair & equitable collection method for the wider tennis community and will not support it.  We also consider both the amendments from Hagley Park & Burnside Park have merit the least of which is to open discussion on alternative models which we feel have not been put on the table to date.”

It is extremely encouraging to see Ellesmere, Hagley, Te Kura and Burnside put the interests of the wider tennis community ahead of their own, and I hope that the TCRI Board will do the same.

I would suggest that the setting of the membership fees could be delayed until an SGM is called, perhaps mid November. If the fees MUST be set at the AGM tomorrow then perhaps the total fee for the region could be set (is it $118,570?), and determining the best collection method could be delayed until an SGM is called. Affiliation Reform has been a very long process and it would be a shame to rush the final stages without all members having the opportunity to discuss alternative (and in my opinion superior) collection methods.

Thank you once again for your time, I am available to discuss any matters relating to affiliation fees prior to the AGM on 021 222 1928.
